WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE CHURCH SUPPOSE TO BE DOING
Matthew 28:19-20
TONY LLOYD LEWIS

.
The task of the text this morning is to focus in on scriptural revelation that call for total dedication.
I realize that you are familiar with this text but I beseech you not to run ahead of me but allow the Holy Spirt to rehearse the principles found in the text. For even you don't receive any new information you will receive new inspiration.

For those of you who are taking notes I want to hang these two verses of scripture on these four principles:

THE MASTER'S PURPOSE IS TO MAKE DISCIPLES
THE MASTER'S PROCESS IS BAPTIZING, TEACHING AND OBEDIENCE
THE MASTER'S PROSPECTS ARE ALL NATIONS.
THE MASTER'S PROMISE IS LO, I AM WITH YOU, ALWAYS
THE MASTER'S PURPOSE IS TO MAKE DISCIPLES

First let us examine the Master's Purpose, "go and make disciples." The question then comes, what is a disciple? These verses teach that it takes three things to make a disciple is one who has identified with Jesus Christ through baptism (an outward demonstration of an inward commitment.)

The first step is to get people to identify with Jesus Christ through salvation.
The second thing is that after a person has identified with Jesus Christ in baptism, he will then be obedient to Christ in the Word. Obedience is an act of the will, not the emotions. God always uses the word WILL instead of FEEL. The Master said if any man WILL, not feel.

The reason why some churches never develop disciples is that everything is based on 'FEELINGS'
The essence of true discipleship is doing what needs to be done in the spirit of self sacrifice, even when you don't feel like doing it. Obedience is better than sacrifice.

Thirdly a disciple is not only one who identifies with Christ through baptism, not only not only is he one who identifies with Christ through obedience. He is also one who identifies with Christ through Fruit Bearing.
If we are not bearing fruit we are not fulfilling the mandate of the Master and that is to make disciples. To bear fruit. We have a tendency to want to do every thing but the thing that we were designed to do. We get side tracked from our purpose for being in the kingdom. To bear fruit. An apple tree may produce shade, but that not its purpose. It is to produce fruit. If you are in the business of marketing apples and you got a bunch of trees that is not producing apples. Are you going to say lets keep them around at least they are producing shade?

Suppose you owned a gas station and you hired a man to changed tires. He came to work. He did was kept telling you how well he could sing or well he ushers cars into the stall. How long would you keep him?
Not long because he is not fulfilling the purpose for which you hired him.

THE MASTER'S PROCESS IS Baptizing, Teaching and Obedience

Now let's look at the Master's Process. The Master's Purpose is to make disciples. The process by which He does this is through Baptizing, Teaching and Obedience.

The first step in the process is to go. If you don't go you, want have anybody to baptize. If you don't go, you won't have anybody to teach. At the beginning of the Master's ministry, after the calling of the twelve. He sat down, opened His mouth and taught them. However, He never could have taught them if he had not first of all won them.

We often make the mistake of thinking that after we have won them we need to shout them or entertain them in order to keep them. However, the Master taught them. All the way through the Gospels until He was crucified, He taught them. Hanging on the cross, He taught them. The got up He taught them. He opened unto them the scriptures on the road to Emmaus, and said, okay fellows, let us get back into the Word. On the day of Pentecost when He caught a cloud to glory He was still teaching them. That's how we make disciples we teach.

THE MASTER'S PROSPECTS ARE ALL NATIONS.

The Master's Purpose is to make disciples. The Master's Process is through baptizing, teaching and them to observe all things.

Thirdly, the Master's Prospects are all nations. Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations.
We have narrowed the prospect down to some nations. If we are truthful, we have narrowed even closer to some people. We have retranslated the text from evangelize to colonize. And there is a difference. When you evangelize you include all nations.

When you colonize you choose those who please us.
When you evangelize you include all nations
When you colonize you include like kind and order
When you evangelize you include all nations
When you colonize you include the "just like us crowd.
When you evangelize you include all nations.
When you colonize you only get the so-called right kind of people.

THE MASTER'S PROMISE IS LO, I AM WITH YOU, ALWAYS

Now let's look at the Master's Promise. The Master's Purpose is to make disciples. The process by which He does this is through Baptizing, Teaching and Obedience. The Master's Prospects are all nations. He is no respecter of persons.

The Master's Promise is Lo. I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. The Lord never gives a GO YE, without at the same time giving a LO I. ,L. O. Stands for Lord Over, it also stands for Look Out, the Master if you recognize that I Am Lord over you and obey me and go I will look out for you.

Whenever you have the Promise of the Lord's Presence, you also have the Promise of His Power.
When we go, we go in His Name and there is power in His Name.

Dr. P. H. Hinton who now lives with the Lord tells the story of a rich family of the other culture that he worked for when he was a boy. Each year the couple would take a cruse to Europe and leave him in charge of the farm. Dr. Hinton said part of his job was to graze the horse down in the meadows. Instead of going through all the hassle, he would leave the horse cooped up in the fenced in area where only Johnson grass was available and he would spend his time joy riding in Mr. Browns Model A. Ford.

One day the Model A. Broke down and ran out of gas right in front of a service station.
The owner of the station fixed the car and filled it with gas but he would not give it back to Dr. Hinton because he did not have enough money. When Mr. and Mrs. Brown came back from their cruise, the Model A was still confiscated. Dr. Hinton said he told Mr. Brown that Mr. Charlie the station had his car.
And Mr. Brown said to him, P.H., you go down to the station and you tell Mr. Charlie that Mr. Brown said send him his car.

Dr. Hinton said, he walked in boldly didn't pull his hat off did not grin or bow and but stood up boldly and said, Mr. Charlie, Mr. Brown said, send him his car. He got the car.
There is power in His Name.
